WIllow Chair

Brief:
A piece of furniture that demands to be seen while taking up very little space.

Goals:
- Intriguing and artistic
- Sparks curiosity
- Interactive

Even when folded against the wall, the Willow chair is the center of attention.

Modeling

Small Scale

Throughout the sketching process I was iterating with small scale models. Observe how the design transitioned from simple curves, to a more complex design with varying curves.

The alternating curves created a pocket in the middle when the chair was opened, which would hold a seated person in an indented shape. This allowed for a more comfortable seat than the alternative, which would have made the person sit on an upward curve.

Full Scale Model

CADCNC

After making sure everything lined up in the full scale perforated paper model, I finalized the CAD file to be CNC cut. Notice that upper and lower brackets were added to some pieces to secure it to wall studs.
